Verses 149-157 GROUP_1178 37.149-157
149
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ الْبَنُونَ
Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons.
150
أَمْ خَلَقْنَا الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِنَاثًا وَهُمْ شَاهِدُونَ
Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses?
151
أَلَا إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ
No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say:
152
وَلَدَ اللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ
‘God has begotten children.’ They are truly liars.
153
أَصْطَفَى الْبَنَاتِ عَلَى الْبَنِينَ
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
154
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement?
155
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Will you not then reflect?
156
أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
Or have you clear evidence?
157
فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth.

Commentary
(a) Satanic inducements, together with erroneous interpretations and interpolations made by human beings distorted the facts. One such belief is that the angels are the daughters of God. This was a baseless assertion and contradicted the polytheists themselves who considered women to be weaker. If the logic of the polytheists were to be upheld, God should have created sons for Himself. Producing such preposterous assertions is a crime and those who do so shall be held accountable for their utterances on the Day of Judgement.
